East from Port-Eynon.

Start. Just north of Port-Eynon from our apartment.

Route. High Winds - Port-Eynon - Horton - Oxwich Point - Oxwich Green - Oxwich Wood - Oxwich - Norton - Beggar's Pit - High Winds.

Notes. We walked from our apartment High Winds but there is plenty of parking in Port-Eynon. This turned out to be a walk above and below striking sea cliffs on high beaches once washed by the sea, always accompanied by the sound of whispering waves, our return was made through green lanes and across fields not quite as exciting.

From Port-Eynon we headed east across the beach passing behind the lifeboat station at Horton, we then climbed onto a high shelf covered with lush green medows, these green pastures were once beaches, the cliffs to our left once washed by the sea, over the last 12.000 years the land has risen free from the pressure of ice, this shelf allowed excellent walking all the way to Oxwich Point. Here we ascended to reach the trig point on Oxwich Green, our descent to Oxwich was made through ancient woodland abound with rare ferns, the trees swathed in ivy, eventually we broke free of the trees to be greeted by a wonderful view over Oxwich Bay, on the edge of the bay Oxwich Bay Hotel, time for lunch.

Our return route followed the lane to Oxwich Castle, from here we followed field paths, tarmac lanes and some of the Gower's many green lanes passing the intriguingly named Beggar's Pit before descending to Horton where we entered a large caravan site, our route followed the southern edge of the site with stunning views over Port-Eynon Bay before following a path through fields to reach the A4118 a few hundred yards from our apartment.
